Modern-day Nova Scotia forms part of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral home of the Mi’kmaq people. Mark began painting at an early age, completing his first oil painting at age 11. He holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from Dalhousie University, and a Master of Architecture degree from the Technical University of Nova Scotia. After working as an architect for two years, Mark made the decision to pursue his true passion, and began painting full-time in 1996. For 20 years, he was represented by Studio 21 Fine Art, the renowned Halifax gallery founded by the late Ineke Graham in 1983. During the past decade, Mark has worked as an independent artist, selling his work directly to the many collectors of his paintings. In September of 2025, Mark and his partner, David Parker, sustained significant injuries when they were assaulted outside of their home. As he and David continue their recoveries, Mark is excited by his new line of canvas prints, and looks forward to creating new original works in the days to come.
